"How much does SEO cost?" is the question we get asked most on discovery calls — and it's also the one with the least honest answers online. Quotes we've seen range from ₹5,000 a month to ₹5,00,000 a month for what sounds, on paper, like the same service. Here's why, and what you should actually be paying for.
Why SEO Quotes Vary So Wildly
Unlike a website build, which ends when the site launches, SEO is an ongoing effort — so a quote is really a bet on how much monthly work a given market requires. A single-location shop competing on a handful of local keywords needs a fraction of the effort a national e-commerce brand needs to rank against established competitors. Anyone quoting a flat number without asking about your market, competition, or current site health is guessing.
What SEO Actually Costs in India, by Scope
Local SEO (₹8,000–₹25,000/month)
Aimed at businesses competing in one city or a handful of neighbourhoods — clinics, salons, contractors, restaurants. Covers Google Business Profile optimisation, review generation, local citation building, and a handful of location-targeted pages. This is usually the right starting tier for a single-location Faridabad or NCR business.
Full SEO — Technical + Content (₹25,000–₹80,000/month)
For businesses that need to actually build search visibility from near-zero, or compete beyond their immediate neighbourhood. Includes technical audits and fixes, a real content calendar (2-4 articles a month), on-page optimisation across the site, and a measured backlink outreach program. Our own 0 to 50,000 monthly visitors case study sat in this range.
Enterprise / National SEO (₹1,00,000+/month)
Multi-location chains, national e-commerce, or anyone competing against well-funded incumbents. Involves dedicated technical, content, and outreach specialists rather than one generalist handling everything.
What a Fair SEO Quote Should Always Include
- A technical audit before pricing — a serious agency looks at your site before quoting a number, not after signing you.
- A defined scope — number of pages optimised, articles published per month, and what "technical fixes" actually covers.
- Reporting you can independently verify — Search Console and Google Analytics access, not just a PDF the agency generated itself.
- A realistic timeline — meaningful organic movement typically takes 3-6 months minimum, longer in competitive niches.
Red Flags That Should Make You Walk Away
Guaranteed #1 rankings, pricing quoted before any audit of your site, "we own thousands of backlink sites," or reluctance to give you direct access to your own Search Console and Analytics accounts. Any one of these is a legitimate reason to keep looking.
One-Time Audit vs. Monthly Retainer
If your budget is tight, a one-time technical audit (typically ₹10,000–₹30,000) that hands you a prioritised fix list is a legitimate starting point — you or your developer can implement it yourselves. A monthly retainer makes more sense once you're ready to compete for rankings continuously, since SEO rewards sustained effort far more than a one-off push.
The Bottom Line
There's no universal "right" price for SEO — only a right price for your specific market, competition, and goals. Ask any agency to explain their number against your actual site and competitors before you sign anything. If they can't, that's your answer.
