"You're a web design agency — why don't you hand-code everything?" We get this question on nearly every discovery call. Here's our honest answer, trade-offs included.
The Question Behind the Question
What people are really asking is: will a Wix site look cheap, load slowly, or limit my growth? Fair question — the platform earned that reputation a decade ago. It doesn't deserve it today, at least not on Wix Studio, which is what we actually build on for most SMB and B2B clients.
Why Wix Studio, Specifically
- Design control without a bloated stack. We get full custom CSS-level control over layout, spacing, and responsiveness — not a rigid drag-and-drop template.
- A CMS the client can actually use. Most of our clients aren't developers. They need to update a price list or publish a blog post without calling us every time.
- Fast, predictable hosting. No managing servers, security patches, or plugin conflicts — which is where most WordPress sites we inherit have gone wrong.
- Built-in technical SEO controls. Clean URL structures, schema fields, sitemap generation, and Core Web Vitals that we can tune without fighting the platform.
The Trade-Offs We've Accepted
We won't pretend it's the right tool for everything:
- Complex custom applications — booking engines with unusual logic, multi-vendor marketplaces — often need custom code or a headless setup instead.
- Extremely high page-count sites (thousands of programmatically generated pages) are better served by a custom stack or a headless CMS.
- Vendor dependency. You're building inside Wix's ecosystem. For 95% of the SMB and B2B clients we work with, that's a fair trade for speed and reliability. For a handful, it isn't — and we say so upfront.
If the brief is a custom web application with unusual backend logic, we'll recommend a custom build. If it's a business that needs a fast, clean, SEO-ready site the owner can maintain — which is most of our Faridabad and NCR client base — Wix Studio wins on total cost of ownership almost every time.
Would We Do It Again?
Yes. Our 0 to 50,000 monthly visitors case study was built on Wix Studio — schema markup, Core Web Vitals under 2.5 seconds, and all. The platform was never the ceiling; the strategy and content were what moved the needle.
